Open Minds is one of those books that hasn't been getting a lot of buzz around the blogosphere but it definitely deserves some. The first book in the Mindjack trilogy is gripping, suspenseful, shocking, and at times, sweet. I have high hopes for the sequel!Kira Moore believes she is a zero, someone who can't read minds. That makes her an outcast in her world until she finds out she is a mindjacker. She can not only read minds, she can control them as well. This makes life very difficult for her because mindjackers are very rare and considered to be very dangerous by the government. Kira tries her hardest to keep her secret but that soon becomes impossible. Will Kira be able to prove to everyone that mindjackers aren't really bad people or will she die trying?Kira was an absolutely fabulous heroine. She was brave, smart, resourceful, and kind. She always put the needs of others before her own and she always tried to help. Sure there were times where I was annoyed with one of her decisions but in the end I loved her. Simon, Raf, Laney, Molloy, Xander, all the characters were great in their own ways. They were very well-developed and easy to understand.The plot was a little slow in the beginning but it quickly picked up and I was hooked. Things take off when Kira gets her mindjack abilities and they don't really slow down until the end of the book. There were times when my heart was racing and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!Overall, Open Minds is a book that I definitely recommend. Dystopian fans will love it and I am sure that once you read it you will be dying for more.
